Love You Lots by Stampin’ Up! is an adorable stamp set of cute, sketched animals and handwritten sentiments. This set will be available June 1, 2016 with a qualifying order.* Today, I’ve colored these courting hedgehogs for the Global Design Project #GDP037.
I love the colors in this week’s challenge. Mint Macaron and Tip Top Taupe from the 2015–2017 In Color Collection are contrasted with Island Indigo for a neutral palette with a pop of color.
I started by stamping the images with Basic Black Archival Ink. This ink is great for watercoloring; it will not smear. I masked the hedgehogs with a liquid masking fluid that can be found at any art supply or craft store where watercolor supplies are available. Look for “liquid masking fluid” or “liquid frisket.” Masking the animals first allowed me to sponge Island Indigo ink over them without them turning blue.
After removing the mask, I colored each hedgehog with an Aqua Painter and Tip Top Taupe ink. The flower was colored in using In Color markers which include the Mint Macaron called for in the challenge and Watermelon Wonder for a touch of color. A couple of brush strokes with Mint Macron along the bottom of the card adds a ground.
I used the edge of a pair of scissors to distress the crisp edge of the painted piece—don’t use your good scissors though. Linen Thread wrapped around the watercolor strengthens the ground and adds a little dimension. More dimension is added by mounting the painting with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I hope you enjoyed the card today. Play along with us at Global Design Project and share your creation using these fun colors. There are also other amazing examples given by our Design Team, give them some love with your visits and comments.
