Hello, everyone. Today’s card is inspired by a Global Design Project Sketch Challenge #GDP034. I do enjoy creating a card with watercolor; in fact I shared a simple way to accomplish this last week. Although today’s card is screaming watercolor, I wanted to try a different take on this week’s sketch.
I started with a piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the background from the You’ve Got This stamp set with Soft Sky ink. The sentiment is from Suite Sayings and is stamped with Basic Black Archival Ink. I wanted to be sure to center the sentiment before stamping around it with Bermuda Bay ink and the splatter stamp from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set.
To add a ton of dimension, but keep the card flat, I started with a piece of Tangerine Tango cardstock cut larger than the stamped piece. I then cut a piece of Cajun Craze to the same size as the lighter orange piece and cut again at a diagonal. All of the pieces were then layered on a Crumb Cake card base. I love the geometric, graphic look created. The blues compliment the orange colors and the neutral card base tones down the card.

LOVE your card Shawn! Using two colours to give a 3D illusion is a little touch of brilliance! xoxo
May 8, 2016 at 1:02 amI keep staring at this card trying to imaging that it is actually flat! Interesting effect with the two-color mat… and a great color combo.

May 5, 2016 at 1:41 amShawn, I love the two oranges together, which certainly add dimension. Actually with the mitered corner they make it look almost 3-D. Very clever. This is a really fun card with the splatter and cross hatch for the background. Great job!
