A Classic Color Combination with Floral Phrases

Floral Phrases and Delicate Doilies come together for today’s Global Design Project challenge; a Color Challenge. The combination for this week’s challenge includes Basic Black, Old Olive and Calypso Coral. These Classic colors by Stampin’ Up! evoke nostalgic prints from days of old and I just couldn’t help but find a way to demonstrate that for you today.

Global Design Project Color Challenge #GDP089. Basic Black, Old Olive and Calypso Coral.

I started by coloring the pretty border found in the Floral Phrases stamp set with Stampin’ Write Markers. Using markers allows you to color different sections of the stamp in alternating colors. This works great with rubber stamps and for larger stamps, just huff on the image with your breath to rejuvenate the ink. You may need to do this as the inks dry on the stamp.

A Stamp-a-ma-jig® is also helpful here if you want to precisely line up your images on the card. I wanted to stamp about 1″ away from the top and bottom of the top panel, so the Stamp-a-ma-jig really made that easy to do.

The sentiment was stamped using Basic Black Archival Ink. You could use the marker for all of the stamping, but let’s be real; this is much easier with a pad.

For a sweet little touch, I added a dyed Delicate White Doily under the sentiment. I folded it several times and glued it to the card with Multipurpose Glue. I think it adds just a little texture to the otherwise flat card.

To dye your own doilies, mix about 10 drops of your favorite Classic Stampin’ Ink refill with water or rubbing alcohol in a Stampin’ Spritzer. I used 91% Isopropyl Alcohol that you may find at any drug store in the first aid section. Using alcohol makes the solution dry quicker so you can get back to your project.

Be a Global Design Project Guest Designer

I hope you enjoyed the card today. Be sure to play along with Global Design Project and show us what you’ve made with this lovely color combination. Remember, because this is a color challenge, a lucky winner will be asked to participate as a Guest Designer on our next color challenge. How fun is that?
